Does anyone have any cool cat themed decorating ideas?

Posted under contemporary decorating by admin on Wednesday 19 November 2008 at 12:08 pm

I love cats and want to decorate my apartment in them. In the past, I usually go for a modern/contemporary/ and colorful look. Most cat stuff I see looks like it is made for a school teacher (no offense to anyone) or homebody. I found some colorful cat stuff, but most of it looks child-like.

I'm a kitty lover too and yes, I agree very few things out there capture the true essence and spirit of a cat. There are few things that might be appealing to you on the website below. Perhaps also if you're handing with a needle and thread maybe you could find some cool material (i.e. pawprints or the like) and make some throw pillows or curtains.

Posted under contemporary decorating by admin on Tuesday 18 November 2008 at 12:06 pm

I saw a magazine at home depot months ago i think the name had the word trend in the title, has anyone heard of this magazine? It is a contemporary/modern theme magazine and I want to look up there website. also do you know of any good contemporary websites I need some ideas for decorating. Thanks

They have many magazines that are like that. Each Home Depot should have a display rack of them. I'll check again when I work tomorrow because I think I know which one your talking about.

1855 Main Street
October 31- November 2, 2008
10:00a.m. - 6:00p.m. Daily
Admission $7, Children 12 & Under FREE

(Santa Monica, CA) Just in time for the holidays, the Contemporary Crafts Market will return to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for its 23rd season as the West Coast’s premiere event for one-of-a-kind functional and decorative crafts. This year’s Market will feature the distinctive works of over 250 of the nation’s finest artists, ranging from intricate jewelry, unique glassware and ceramics to hand-painted textiles, custom furniture, mixed-media creations and much more. All items on display and for sale have been jury-selected for their exceptional quality.

The Contemporary Crafts market has been a showcase for burgeoning and established talent for over two decades. Year after year, the market brings together an eclectic mix of artisans, while also allowing visitors to meet the artists behind some of the nation’s finest crafts.

Roy Helms, Contemporary Crafts Market Founder, has continually sought to raise awareness of fine crafts as a serious art form by highlighting talented artists who have created a name for themselves and whose works can be found in national and international museums or galleries.

“Each year, the Contemporary Crafts Market provides shoppers and collectors with some of the finest craft pieces from across the United States,” Helms explained. “This year will be no exception, as these artists have provided visitors with unique holiday gift ideas for the coming shopping season.”

This year’s market will include the work of Joyce Aysta of Live Your Dreams Designs, whose Origami Architecture is the combination of two ancient Japanese art forms: Origami — the art of folding paper, and Kirigami — the art of cutting paper. The result is a single sheet of cut and folded paper that when opened displays a stunning three-dimensional image. Her work has been used by the Smithsonian and other prominent institutions because of the uniqueness of the art form and the precision and intricacy of her greeting cards. Collections range from Judaica to Christmas ornaments to California landmarks, each one carefully cut and crafted to create an unforgettable holiday keepsake.
Also participating in the market is Jerzi Sanecki, who creates decorative brass and glass functional art. His pieces, which range from floor lights to fireplace screens, offer creative decorating solutions for homes and offices. Sanecki also constructs custom motifs that can be applied to his pieces to create a harmonious design scheme throughout any space. To create his hand-made pieces, the artisan draws inspiration from a variety of regions and styles, including intricate Ancient Egyptian designs and 20th century Art Deco practices. With over 20 years of experience in this field, Sanecki’s pieces adorn the interiors of both European and American spaces alike.

Sanecki will be joined by Rubaiyat, specializing in hand-crafted shoes for over four decades. The dynamic husband-and-wife duo of Louis and Melinda Whisler create carefully crafted styles that range from casual sandals to boots. Not only do these artisans craft ready-to-wear shoes, but customers also have the opportunity to participate in the design process by selecting from a wide variety of styles, colors and materials. With an eclectic assortment that range from classic brown flats to flaming red python pumps, Rubaiyat’s collection features styles fit for both men and women. The Whislers are dedicated to using their expertise and knowledge of this field to construct “wearable art” for the fashion-forward.

The Contemporary Crafts Market is held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, located at 1855 Main Street on the corner of Pico Boulevard. Show hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 31- November 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $7.00 for adults and children under 12 are free. For additional information, call (310) 285-3655 or visit the website at www.CraftSource.org.

Please help me come up with decorating ideas for my dining room

Posted under contemporary decorating by admin on Monday 17 November 2008 at 10:20 am

I like urban style of decorating. Contemporary, simple, clean. I have my grandmother’s antique dining room set. Circa 1942. Very ornate, detailed designs, middle-dark wood. I have no idea how to go about decorating a room with this style of furniture. I would like for the room to somehow still have an urban flair to it. I don’t like heavy, ornate rooms. Please help me with ideas.

Accessories and a light paint color will offset the dark heaviness of the furniture. I have a set like that too and using a double curtain rod, I put white sheer curtains imprinted with a leaf pattern in back and then lt. green silk curtains in front, on a window. (got ‘em at Target, didn’t cost a fortune.) I painted the walls sage green. I used a black curtain rod with a curly finial. I picked up the finial design by putting up a wall hanging with that same pattern. The wall hanging has 4 supports for four 8X10 frames. I went on art.com and bought 4 botanical paintings and put them inside. Put a plant in the corner. I bought a planter that looks like a ladder and put a wicker, and a leather jug on it. Looks great! The accessories make the room! Watch the HGTV decorating shows. Their ideas ROCK!!

Need help decorating my bathroom?

Posted under contemporary decorating by admin on Sunday 16 November 2008 at 2:39 am

I have a contemporary decorating style throughout my home. My livingroom colors are browns, reds, and oranges. I am having a hard time finding pictures I like to hang on the wall in the bathroom. Any decorating ideas you have will be great. Thank you!

I love your style. Very now.

Stick with the same theme you already have throughout. That way, as you have done, it keeps the whole house looking well thought out & actually decorated properly.

Having said that - for your bathroom. Stick with your very trendy colour scheme. Love it!

So……buy 1 medium or large (only you now how big the bathroom is) OR 3 small blank art canvasses. Can be bought at those cheap imported stores. & the paint/brushes.

Then: Look in magazines or around you or in stores for inspiration. Find a modern pattern or something very simple.

THEN: paint it yourself. It should be, I think, very simple without too much pattern or fuss about it. It could just be as simple as one half in one colour & the other half in another colour - too easy.

Put these up on the wall after you place it or them on the floor to see how you like it first.

If you cannot find anything already made to buy for your bathroom then be a little artistic yourself. This would be an easy & cheap way to keep your colour scheme going in the bathroom as you simply use a combination of the browns, reds and oranges.

This would be a fun project for you to do.
I have done this myself with my own colour scheme for my family room & it looks great. Tied in what I have & wanted.

Have alot of fun with it if you choose to do so.
